Situation

The Engineering Services division of this €50 billion industrial powerhouse uses Learn to train contractors on safety standards and practices before they report for their first day of work on an automotive parts shop floor.

Contractors, including pipefitters, toolmakers, and assemblers, enter a work environment that requires eye protection, steel-toed boots, and hard hats. Forklifts, overhead cranes, ladders, heights, and heavy lifting make for a potentially hazardous environment that requires strict adherence to safety standards.

Before Learn, contractors spent half of their first day receiving safety training. Now they arrive fully trained and ready for work.

Solution

Contractors take Learn courses on a wide variety of platforms – desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile. The Documentation and Standards team builds courses in Learn from source material in a variety of formats: PowerPoint slides (including embedded animations), videos, PDFs, and Word docs. Typical courses run 40-60 slides with quizzes of up to 30 questions each.

Learn provides powerful reports which allow the company to quickly view critical metrics on trainees and courses, such as how many have passed and failed, time spent on courses, and total training time for a series. Every two months, the program leaders meet with upper management to review results and recommend curriculum changes based on trainee performance.

This innovative multinational is constantly updating courses to ensure they are compelling and effective. Using Learn’s breakthrough web-conversion and live editing features, she can make specific changes by simply inserting a new slide at any point.

Through integration with a corporate web portal, trainees self-register for Learn courses based on job titles. Training administrators create custom trainee groups in Learn and, when necessary, adds filtering fields for new entities, such as a new supplier of contract labor. “There are lots of ways to customize Learn,” one Administrator stated. “It allows us to tailor the platform to do just what we need.”

Results

The company is saving a half-day per contractor, since they now arrive fully trained.
Administrators can easily customize Learn to meet their unique requirements.
Management can now review training statistics regularly to improve comprehension, coverage, and worker safety.
